Julie Donovan

Julie Donovan's doctoral dissertation, which became a book titled Sydney Owenson (Lady Morgan) and the Politics of Style, took as its subject a forgotten nineteenth-century woman writer who was successful and famous in her day, but written out of subsequent literary histories that occluded women's achievement. As an Irish nationalist, radical, and feminist, Owenson's work spoke to Donovan's interests in women's rights, education, and national identity. Her passion is literature of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, but she has taught courses that address other eras too.

Julie Donovan's current research and teaching continues to focus on women's writing. She teaches in the Women's Leadership Program at George Washington University, a first-year living and learning program, where their focus is on interdisciplinary perspectives on women's leadership. She also serves as an affiliated faculty member at the Global Women's Institute.
